General
We recommend to
use the web site of our American agent Paul
Remde. He has made a very good comparison of all the available PDA's.
Pocket*StrePla has been tested on the
following PDAs:
| Unit |
Processor/ Memory |
Remarks |
| Compaq iPAQ 3660 |
StrongArm, 206 Mhz |
Old model. Not more recommended. |
|
Compaq iPAQ 3760 |
StrongArm, 206 Mhz |
Good display but less memory. For
memory extension a jacket will be needed. This makes the unit very
large. |
|
Compaq iPAQ 3850, 3870 |
StrongArm, 206 Mhz |
Always our recommendation.
Best relation performance vs. price. The best display in the sun.
Only available as used units. |
|
Compaq iPAQ 3950, 3970 |
XScale, 400 Mhz |
The display is in the sun not so good
than the older 3850. Therefore it is not our recommondation. |
|
HP iPAQ 19xx (old series) |
Samsung 2410 |
keine serielle Schnittstelle.
Auslaufmodell. |
|
HP iPAQ 22xx (old series) |
XScale, 400 Mhz |
Usable, but old. Better is 3850. |
|
HP iPAQ 41xx, 51xx, 54xx, 55xx |
XScale, 400 Mhz |
Usable, but old. Better is 3850. |
|
HP
iPAQ rz1710 |
Samsung, 203 Mhz, 32 MB |
No serial com port. Only 32MB RAM. We
will not recommend this unit. |
|
HP
iPAQ hx2110 |
Intel, 312 Mhz, 128 MB |
Quiet ok. It has a serial com.
The display technology is the same at the 4700, will say good. But
only 3.5". |
|
HP
iPAQ hx2410 |
Intel, 520 Mhz, 128 MB |
Same comment like hx2110 |
|
HP
iPAQ hx2750 |
Intel, 624 Mhz, 256 MB |
Same comment like hx2110 |
|
HP
iPAQ hx4700 |
Intel, 624 Mhz, 64 + 128 MB |
Our recommendation if it should
be a new very good unit. A lot of features and a good display. |
|
Casio CASIOPEIA E-200G |
StrongArm, 206 Mhz |
Old model. Not more recommended. |
| Dell AXIM X5 |
|
You need a special serial cable from
DELL. |
| Toshiba E800 |
XScale, 400 Mhz,
Windows Mobile 2003 |
You need pocket*StrePla higher than
version 2.80e. |
(this list will be continued as soon as new devices have been tested)
ADVICE: Since the newer iPAQ-models have a higher pulse frequency, it
is expected that pocket*StrePla runs faster on these models. However,
this is not correct! Pocket*StrePla runs about just as quickly on the
current iPAQs 5450 with XScale-Processor as on an iPAQ 3660. The XScale-models
do have a display that has a more brilliant effect in a closed room, but
the old StrongArm-models are better in a cockpit with lots of sunlight,
since the display is more rich in contrast. The best choice right now is
the iPAQ 3850: very good legibility in strong sunlight, more colour than
the iPAQ 3660 and iPAQ 3760-models, easy memory extension by SD-cards
without having to install a "Jacket" which makes the iPAQ
rather unhandy.
Pocket*StrePla is compatible with the iPAQ 3630,
however, the memory of the device must be expanded to at least 64MB.
Please make sure that the operating system of these devices is at least
PocketPC2002. PocketPC2000 or Windows CE are not sufficient. In these
cases the iPAQ mus be upgraded.
Furthermore, please notice that the newer devices such as the iPAQ 19xx series
or the MEDION PDA do not have a serial port. This means that you cannot
connect a flight recorder (logger) or glider computer as a GPS-source.
You can only use these devices with a USB-GPS mouse.
Due to the forementioned reasons, we suggest the iPAQ from the 38xx
series. We are constantly trying to get new devices for our customers, so
please ask us.
Other manufacturer's PDAs should also work, as long as they have one of
the processors listed above and Pocket PC 2002 operating system, Mobile Windows 2003
or Windows Mobile 5 operating system.
The NMEA format used by all flight recorders (loggers) is used as a GPS
source. In principle, pocket*StrePla should also work with
other data-sources (GPS-mouse).
The following have been tested:
| GPS-source |

| Filser GPS-Mouse |

| Filser LX5000, LX20 |
Up to LX20-Version 5.0, the LX20
